A Team Approach    Procedure    Program Eligibility    Funding    

PROCEDURE
An organized, comprehensive approach to evaluating and training ensures the highest quality service and outcome. The following will occur based on the individuals' identified needs:

 Consultation
Determination of driving needs based on input from the client, the evaluator and other relevant sources.
 Evaluation
A registered Occupational Therapist provides a thorough clinical evaluation of driving-related skills. Included in the evaluation is the opportunity for actual driving of a vehicle to determine behind-the-wheel skills. If indicated, adaptive equipment (i.e., hand controls, steering devices) may be introduced at this time.
 On-The-Road Training
Based on evaluation results, training may be recommended. A Driver Rehabilitation Specialist will provide instruction for safe and defensive driving skills Adaptive equipment will be used if recommended.
 Final Evaluation
A formal final evaluation of driving skills will be conducted to determine readiness for independent driving following on-the-road training.
 Equipment Conformance Evaluation
If adaptive driving equipment was indicated, a final fitting and operational assessment may be performed.
