We offer home pick-up in some areas. We do our best, but cannot guarantee it will be available for every student in each class.

Michigan law requires both a Segment 1 and Segment 2 driver education program for students under the age of eighteen. What are the instructional time requirements for the Segment 1 and Segment 2 programs?
The Segment 1 driver's education program consists of 24 hours in the classroom (twelve two-hour sessions), 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction and 4 hours of observation time. The Segment 2 program consists of 6 hours in the classroom (three two-hour classroom sessions) focusing on defensive driving/traffic safety.
At what age may students enroll in a Segment 1 driver education program?
Students are permitted to enroll in a Segment 1 program at the age of 14 years and 8 months.
Is the textbook provided for Segment 1?
No, until otherwise stated the textbook is not provided. As of January 01 2022 the ONLY textbook accepted by the state of Michigan is the AAA "How To Drive" textbook. The books can be purchased here: Physical Copy and eBook.
When is a student eligible to secure a Level 1 Learner's License?
The student will be eligible to secure a Level 1 Learner's License upon successful completion of a Segment 1 driver's education program and having reached the age of 14 years and 9 months.
When may a student enroll in a Segment 2 driver's education program?
The student must have a Level l Learner's License which has been held for at least three months (90 days). The student must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of driving (including 2 hours at night) with a licensed parent or legal guardian (or parent designee).
Are parents required to provide additional on-the-road driving experience?
After the Level 1 Learner's License has been issued, a licensed parent/legal guardian must drive with their son/daughter for a minimum of six months (180 days). Within that six-month period, a parent/legal guardian is expected to provide a minimum of 50 hours of behind-the-wheel experience. Ten of the 50 hours must be nighttime driving. NOTE: When issued the Level 1 Learner's License at any Secretary of State branch office, the student will receive a copy of the booklet, Road Skills Test Study Guide. The guide gives a detailed description of the road test–including a Student Driving Experience Log (on the last pages) where the student should keep a record of their driving experience. On the day of the road test, the signature of a parent/legal guardian will be required, documenting that the student has driven a minimum of 50 hours (ten of which have been nighttime driving).
Who is required to take a road test?
All new driver's license applicants are required to take a driving skills test. After a Level 1 License has been held for a minimum of six months (180 days), the student becomes eligible to take a road test. (The student must have a Certificate of Completion from Segment 2 in order to be road tested. There is no minimum holding period for the Certificate of Completion from Segment 2.) To schedule a road skills test in Michigan, a third-party tester must be contacted. All Secretary of State branch offices provide a "courtesy" list of Detroit Metro Third-Party Testers. Can someone 18 or over take Teen Segment 1 or 2 Driver's Education Classes?
No, once you turn 18 you are not legally eligble to participate in a Teen Driver's Education course. You may apply for a temporary instruction permit through the Secretary of State and then your third party road test. If you feel you need driving help please see our Adult Driving Tab.
Do you offer road tests?
No, we do not offer road tests. Road test facilities in your area can be found HERE, in the yellow pages, or on the slip given to you the last day of Segment 2.
